This is the process of improving investment practices in the areas of environmental, social and governance risk management by funds and fund managers. The emergence of new environmental risks (climate change), increasing focus on social risk as both a risk and an opportunity for competitive advantage and reduced investor tolerance of poor corporate governance are key factors driving the adoption of responsible investment practices.

Phil Preston, of Seacliff Consulting, was a key driver of the process that included the adoption and early stage implementation of responsible investment at his former employer, Colonial First State Global Asset Management.
